In this month’s Skin Series, Dr. La-toya MwoombolaHamutenya shares her trusted aesthetic-medicine insights, helping you make confident, informed choices about your skin and health.
Let’s be honest, our faces get all the attention when it comes to skincare, while the rest of our skin travels economy. But your body deserves the same care, and the good news is: you don’t need a complicated routine to get there. A few simple, consistent habits are all it takes to keep your skin glowing from head to toe.
Choose a body wash suited to your skin type, one that cleanses without stripping away natural oils. If you step out of the shower feeling tight or dry, your cleanser is likely too harsh. A gentle formula should leave skin feeling clean, fresh and comfortable.
Exfoliation sweeps away dead skin cells and smooths rougher areas like knees, elbows and inner thighs, while improving hyperpigmentation. Look for gentle acids like glycolic or lactic acid, and stick to once a week, remember over-exfoliating does more harm than good.
With Namibia’s dry climate, hydration deserves top priority. Apply a nourishing body moisturiser right after showering, while skin is still damp, to seal in moisture. Body oils are a great addition too, and there are many affordable options that offer long-lasting hydration and soft, healthy-looking skin.
If you’ve read this column before, you know: SPF is nonnegotiable. And it’s not just for your face, your arms, shoulders, chest and legs need protection too, especially under Namibia’s bright skies. Daily SPF helps prevent premature ageing, pigmentation and long-term sun damage.
After all the walking and adventuring, your feet deserve love too. Keep them clean, gently exfoliated, and well moisturised to avoid dryness and cracked heels.
Healthy skin isn’t about complexity, it’s about consistency. Cleanse, exfoliate gently, hydrate, protect with SPF and don’t forget the easy-to-overlook areas. Keep it simple, and your skin will thank you for the journey.
