Five things to know about Jessica

Meet Jessica Amoonga, the new Face of FlyNamibia. Creative, curious, wonderfully expressive and very much someone who follows her own path, Jessica has a way of finding joy in the people, places and little things around her. Here are five things she thinks you should know about her.

1. I’m a creative entrepreneur

Creating is how I experience life. I paint, dance, design, take pictures, make videos, edit, make jewellery, work with wood and plants… basically, if I can make something with my hands, I’m probably going to try it.

I also host creative, leadership and team-building camps where I create spaces for people, especially young people, to discover their skills and a little more about themselves. My guest house and Xtream Content House are other spaces where I get to bring all these different parts of my creative world together.

2. I absolutely HATE texting

I’m probably one of the worst texters you’ll ever meet. It’s not personal, I promise. I’m usually somewhere doing something, making something or working with my hands.

For business, I literally have to stop everything and enter what I call my “texting zone”, because I know I need to reply to people and run my businesses. Personally? I’d much rather you just call me. Let’s have the conversation, get straight to the point and carry on with our lives. If I reply after three weeks, please know I probably still love you. I’m trying!

3. I went to seven different schools

From Grade 1 to Grade 12, I attended seven different schools. Moving around that much taught me how to adapt, how to read people and how to find my place in completely new environments.

Looking back, I think it’s part of the reason I can go almost anywhere and somehow find a way to make it feel like home.

4. I’m very intentional, and I REALLY hate lies

I don’t do things simply because I’m bored, lonely or because everyone else is doing them. I’m intentional about the people, experiences and situations I allow into my life.

And please, just be honest with me. You can tell me something I don’t want to hear and I’ll respect you for telling me the truth. But lying to me is probably the quickest way to lose my trust.

I’m even intentional about love. I’ve been single for nine years, not because I don’t believe in love, but because when I love, I love deeply. I’d rather wait for the right person than date simply for the sake of dating. And trust me, I’ll know when the person is right for me.

5. I’m a nature woman at heart

Give me plants, animals, stones, water, gardens, sunsets, swimming and the outdoors and I’m happy.

I genuinely struggle to hurt animals. So if you find a spider in the house, please don’t kill Grace. Yes, the spider has a name. I’ll probably relocate her somewhere safe and send her on her way.

Nature is where I feel most like myself and where I go to reset. My favourite colours are green and yellow. Green for life and nature, and yellow for sunshine and happiness.

And, of course, because I’m basically a pineapple.

I love pineapples. I love hearts. And I love LOVE.
